Explosion of Growth in Wyndham Triggers Huge Demands
The City of Wyndham is one of the nation’s population hotspots with an estimated 330,000 people to be added within the next 15 years. As families search for cheaper housing on Melbourne’s outskirts, many call for the state government to appoint a “minister for the west”. The land to the west of Melbourne is close to the CBD and relatively underdeveloped. Craig Rowley, CEO of western suburbs advocacy group LeadWest, said, “We’re building the new Melbourne here, and we’ve got in that 10-15-year horizon a city the size of Adelaide being plonked right up next to Melbourne. That’s a big deal, it should have its own ministry.” With new infrastructure and development projects like an integrated transport plan and the West Gate Tunnel Project, the explosion of growth will call for huge demands. New schools, hospitals, shopping centres, and more are sure to be a part of the future of the west.
