The first stage of the Lake Macquarie Transport Interchange, a link between Cardiff and Glendale and the Hunter Sports Centre, is now open. The next part of the project is the “essential missing link,” a three-span bridge connecting Glendale with the Cardiff industrial estate. The full project, which includes a railway station and transport interchange, would provide many economic and social benefits.
“These projects have the potential to unlock a huge amount of land and job-generating industry,” said Greg Piper, the Independent Member for Lake Macquarie. “In the scheme of what the State Government is spending on a short-run light rail system in Newcastle, these projects at Glendale will provide far greater benefits to the whole region for much less money and get more people using public transport.” This long-awaited project will benefit this region greatly.
