To-do lists are one of the most used tools by high achieving people.

1. Write it down

While people do not necessarily need to have their daily tasks written down to do them, creating a to-do list is one of the tools used most by high achieving people. Creating a daily to-do list is helpful because it ensures you do not forget anything in the course of the day.

Moreover, there is a psychological surge of energy that comes from ticking off the items on the list. This surge of energy can help you to do more in the day, resulting in greater productivity.

2. Use the Pomodoro technique

Developed by Francesco Cirillo in the late 1980s, the Pomodoro Technique is a time management method that involves the use of a timer to divide the work day into intervals followed by breaks.

The Pomodoro technique breaks down work into 25 minute long sessions followed by a short break. The technique has been shown to increase productivity significantly. Imposing a time limit on yourself is likely to make you work faster and the break after will recharge you mentally, providing you with the energy to focus on your next task.

3. Limit phone use

Mobile phones can be useful in the work context, helping us to plan our days and communicate with others. However, more often than not, mobile phones serve as a distraction during the workday.

Constantly checking your phone for notifications can have a negative impact on your productivity as well as your mental health. In fact, regularly checking your phone is a sign that you need a lifestyle change. Limit your mobile phone usage, especially when you are working, to increase productivity.

4. Check social media during breaks

Similar to mobile phones, social media serve as a major distraction. Reduce the negative effects these platforms have on your productivity by imposing limits on yourself. Access the websites only during breaks or even better, in the evenings once you are done with your workday.
