Impression of the Australian Education City
A bold vision for Melbourne’s west is nearing reality
The Australian Education City (AEC) is one step closer as the State Government will make a final decision later in 2017. This $30 billion “super city” in East Werribee would include 30,000 dwellings, universities, schools, a thriving town centre and more. An expected 80,000 residents and 50,000 students would experience local and overseas universities collaborating to provide world-class education.
The AEC is hoping to receive a boost from Melbourne’s reputation as one of the top international education centres. By 2050, 100,000 education, research, and service industry jobs are estimated for the AEC. “Should Australian Education City get the tick of approval from the Victorian Government this sort of facility and others like it are going to attract a premium, the likes of which has hitherto not been seen in Melbourne’s West,” said Julian Heatherich, Savills director.
