Several leading business hotel brands have expressed interest in Maroochydore’s new city centre after John Holland, an infrastructure and property developer, struck a $200 million deal. The deal in the new city centre is for five super-lots totaling 1.4 hectares.
“Confidential discussions are continuing but there is no doubt that this site has captured the attention of Australia’s business community including hotel operators,” said John Knaggs, SunCentral Maroochydore Chief Executive Officer. SunCentral Maroochydore, the company in charge of design and delivery of the new city centre, has been negotiating with different hotel groups. “The new hotel will primarily be aimed at business clientele and there is widespread recognition that demand for such accommodation will grow significantly as the CBD takes shape.”
The introduction of direct international flights from Asia to the Sunshine Coast will increase business travel to the region. When the Sunshine Coast Airport expansion is operating in 2020, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council estimates that two million more passengers will be flying into the area by 2040. By this time, there will be significant service, technology and construction businesses in Maroochydore. Hotel development details are expected to be revealed before the end of the year.
