Jacques and his wife Marcelle immigrated to Australia from South Africa nine years ago. They were seeking a better lifestyle and a safe place to raise their twin girls, who were just four at the time.
They found the exchange rate ‘daunting’, with 12 rand buying them just one Australian dollar. Despite selling a large home in South Africa, their money could not get them a home anywhere in Sydney.
